Job Title: Forklift Mechanic / Level II Maintenance Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing electric and LP-powered forklifts and other material handling equipment within a fast-paced distribution warehouse. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and resolve equipment issues, and ensure all machinery operates safely and efficiently. You work independently as the primary on-site technician while collaborating with a broader maintenance team and leadership to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on electric and LP-powered forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Complete fluid changes, including engine oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, and differential lubricants.
  • Replace filters, belts, spark plugs, ignition components, and other wear items as needed.
  • Conduct tune-ups, brake adjustments, steering repairs, and basic drivetrain maintenance.
  • Inspect, maintain, and service industrial batteries, including watering, removal, installation, and minor repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and fuel system issues on forklifts and heavy equipment.
  • Perform detailed equipment inspections to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • Replace and repair components such as tires, lights, horns, forks, attachments, and other equipment parts.
  • Complete touch-up painting and cosmetic repairs when required to maintain equipment appearance and usability.
  • Diagnose equipment issues accurately and recommend effective, timely repair solutions.
  • Use diagnostic tools and wiring schematics to identify and resolve electrical and control system problems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and documentation in line with company standards.
  • Interpret service manuals, repair procedures, and technical documentation to perform correct repairs.
  • Support senior technicians and collaborate with maintenance leadership to prioritize and schedule work.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain productivity targets while delivering high-quality service and minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Communicate clearly with operations and warehouse personnel regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service to internal stakeholders.
  • Use and maintain personal hand tools and keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Travel occasionally to other locations as business needs require to support maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing electric or LP-powered material handling equipment, including forklifts.
  • Hands-on experience with forklift repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and fuel systems on forklifts and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair LPG forklifts and electric forklifts, including Crown electric models.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and reading wiring schematics to identify equipment issues.
  • Ability to interpret and apply information from service manuals, repair procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing tune-ups, brake adjustments, steering repairs, and drivetrain maintenance.
  • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in the context of material handling and heavy equipment.
  • Clean driving record suitable for operating company vehicles and traveling between locations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills when working with operations and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to work independently as the main technician on site while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail in all maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship, following all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds safely.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in industrial environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and weather conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally as business needs require.
  • Ownership and use of personal hand tools needed to perform mechanical and electrical repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
  • Experience in a dealership forklift technician role is a significant plus.
  • Forklift maintenance certification or formal technical training in material handling equipment is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for basic documentation and communication.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders and service history.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation for compliance and operational visibility.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment schematics and diagrams beyond basic wiring, including hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload to meet productivity and quality targets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with warehouse and operations staff.

Work Environment

You use personal hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and computerized systems to perform your work, and you may travel occasionally to other locations as business needs require. Attire is typical for an industrial warehouse and maintenance setting, emphasizing practicality, safety, and readiness to work around machinery and materials.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $34.00/hr.
