Job Title: CNC OD Grinder Operator
Job Description
This role involves operating and progressively learning to set up proprietary multi-axis CNC grinders in a precision manufacturing environment. You will work with advanced equipment to produce high-quality components to very tight tolerances, while participating in structured apprenticeship and training programs that support your development from entry-level through advanced operator levels.
Responsibilities
- Operate multi-axis CNC grinders and related CNC equipment according to established procedures and safety standards.
- Set up CNC grinders for production runs, including loading programs, selecting appropriate tooling, and configuring machine parameters as training progresses.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet specification and tight tolerance requirements.
- Use inspection tools such as calipers and other measuring instruments to verify dimensions and quality of finished parts.
- Assist with or perform tooling setup, including diamond and carbide tooling, as skill level increases.
- Monitor machines during operation, identify issues such as tool wear or dimensional deviations, and make basic adjustments as needed.
- Handle complex job setups for multi-axis milling and grinding equipment at higher operator levels.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a well-lit, climate-controlled facility.
- Follow standardized work instructions and quality procedures to ensure consistent output.
- Participate fully in apprenticeship and training programs required for operators and maintenance staff.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and continuous improvement goals.
- Document production data and inspection results accurately as required.
Essential Skills
- Ability to learn and operate multi-axis CNC grinders and CNC equipment with on-the-job training.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints for dimensional and tolerance requirements.
- Basic proficiency with inspection tools such as calipers and other measuring devices.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in manufacturing or CNC operations.
- Willingness to complete required apprenticeship and training programs for operators and maintenance staff.
- For A-level operators: prior tool grinding experience.
- For A-level operators: experience working with diamond or carbide tooling.
- For B-level operators: experience with 4 to 5 axis or 3 to 5 axis milling.
- For B-level operators: demonstrated ability to set up complex jobs on CNC equipment.
- For C–D level (entry-level) operators: recent graduation from a manufacturing, machining, or related program or prior experience as a CNC mill or lathe operator.
- Strong attitude and aptitude for learning in a technical environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- No prior CNC experience is required for entry-level (C–D level) candidates; comprehensive training is provided.
- Exposure to carbide grinding, tooling, or similar precision grinding processes is beneficial for advanced levels.
- Experience in environments that use multi-axis CNC grinders or advanced milling centers is an advantage.
- Familiarity with precision manufacturing and tight-tolerance work is a plus.
- Completion of technical or vocational coursework in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is advantageous for entry-level candidates.
- Ability to work effectively across different shifts as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing machine or quality issues.
- Comfort working with structured apprenticeship and skills development programs.
Why Work Here?
You will work in a clean, well-lit, and fully climate-controlled facility designed for precision manufacturing and operator comfort. The organization invests heavily in its people by offering structured apprenticeship and training programs that every operator and maintenance team member completes, giving you a clear pathway to develop from entry-level to advanced CNC operator. You will gain rare, specialized experience in multi-axis grinding and tooling that few companies offer, positioning you for long-term growth in a highly technical field. The culture emphasizes continuous learning, skill development, and stability, creating an environment where you can build a lasting career in modern manufacturing.
Work Environment
The facility is clean, well lit, and climate controlled, maintaining a consistent temperature around 71 degrees year-round to support very tight tolerances and operator comfort. You will work primarily with proprietary multi-axis CNC grinders, many of which are assembled in Germany, along with standard CNC equipment, inspection tools such as calipers, and precision measuring instruments. The operation runs multiple shifts, including 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), providing structured schedules in a modern manufacturing setting. The environment supports disciplined, detail-oriented work with an emphasis on safety, organization, and consistent processes, while allowing operators to develop their skills on advanced technology.
