The Carpenter Foreman leads self-perform construction activities on light-commercial and commercial projects across a variety of industries. This role combines hands-on carpentry and general construction work with field leadership, material and equipment coordination, and real-time tracking of budgets and schedules. The Carpenter Foreman ensures work meets quality, safety, and project requirements while guiding on-site crews and supporting subcontracted vendors.
Responsibilities
- Provide self-perform services on assigned projects, including selective demolition, progress clean-up, and final cleaning assistance.
- Perform rough carpentry, including rough framing and wall layout, ensuring structures meet project specifications and quality standards.
- Execute finish carpentry, including installation of trim, crown, casework, and other finish components with a high level of craftsmanship.
- Install commercial doors and hardware in accordance with plans, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
- Perform drywall patching, finishing, and painting to deliver clean, finished surfaces ready for turnover.
- Complete miscellaneous flooring work and vinyl base patching as required by project scope.
- Install building specialties and accessories according to project drawings and schedules.
- Install suspended ceiling grid and acoustic ceiling tile (ACT) systems accurately and efficiently.
- Quantify, order, and track materials required for project-specific duties, ensuring timely availability of supplies.
- Return unused materials when feasible or coordinate storage for future use on other projects to minimize waste.
- Quantify, order, and track company-owned and rental equipment needed for project-specific tasks.
- Coordinate the timely return of equipment to off-site locations to prevent unnecessary storage of unused equipment on-site.
- Review and understand the contract scope of work for each assigned project and identify deviations or changes.
- Report potential and confirmed change orders in real time to the assigned Project Manager for timely processing.
- Review self-perform budgets with the assigned Project Manager and/or Superintendent and understand labor cost expectations.
- Track self-perform labor hours and productivity against the project budget in real time throughout each project.
- Review and understand the project schedule for each assigned project and plan work activities to meet milestones.
- Coordinate sequencing of self-perform tasks with other trades and subcontractors to support overall project progress.
- Assist in the procurement of project-specific building permits when necessary, supporting compliance with local regulations.
- Lead on-site self-perform crews, providing direction, coaching, and support to ensure safe and efficient work.
- Coordinate and collaborate with subcontracted vendors on-site to align work scopes and maintain quality and schedule.
- Perform work across multiple sectors, including convenience stores, general commercial, grocery stores, health care, manufacturing, multi-family, commercial office spaces, restaurant, retail, and senior housing projects.
- Maintain a safety-first approach on all job sites, promoting adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with project teams through clear verbal updates and accurate written documentation.
- Apply problem-solving skills to address field issues, constraints, and unexpected conditions as they arise.
- 3 to 5 years of carpentry experience on light-commercial and commercial projects.
- Strong construction and carpentry skills, including framing, rough carpentry, and finish carpentry.
- Hands-on experience with selective demolition, progress clean-up, and final cleaning assistance.
- Proficiency in rough framing and wall layout for commercial and light-commercial structures.
- Experience in finish carpentry, including crown, trim, and casework installation.
- Ability to install commercial doors and hardware in accordance with project requirements.
- Experience with drywall patching, finishing, and painting.
- Knowledge of concrete-related work as it relates to carpentry and general construction tasks.
- Proficiency with hand tools and construction tools commonly used in carpentry and general construction.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Base understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPFP) systems.
- Safety-first mentality supported by OSHA 10 training (with OSHA 30 preferred).
- Strong organizational skills to manage materials, equipment, and labor effectively.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project teams and vendors.
- Proficient problem-solving skills to resolve field issues and adapt to changing site conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a self-starting leader of on-site self-perform crews and subcontracted vendors.
- OSHA 10 safety certification required; OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Experience working in diverse sectors such as convenience stores, general commercial, grocery stores, health care, manufacturing, multi-family, commercial office spaces, restaurant, retail, and senior housing.
- Experience installing specialties, suspended ceiling grid, and acoustic ceiling tile (ACT) systems.
- Familiarity with quantifying, ordering, and tracking construction materials and equipment.
- Experience tracking self-perform labor against project budgets and schedules.
- Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors.

Work Environment

Projects span sectors such as convenience stores, general commercial buildings, grocery stores, health care facilities, manufacturing plants, multi-family housing, commercial office spaces, restaurants, retail spaces, and senior housing. The position is field-based and hands-on, requiring regular use of hand tools, power tools, construction equipment, and materials handling processes. Work conditions may include active construction areas, varying noise levels, and coordination with multiple trades and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
