Operating Room RN (Circulator) | Ambulatory Surgery Center

Position Summary\n

A leading outpatient surgery center in Colchester, Vermont is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join its growing surgical team in a full-time capacity. The OR RN will provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care while functioning in the circulating role, with scrub responsibilities as appropriate based on experience and departmental needs.

The ideal candidate is clinically skilled, adaptable, team-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment.

Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Provide direct patient care throughout the perioperative continuum using the nursing process.
  • \n
  • Function as a Circulating RN and/or Scrub RN during surgical procedures based on experience and departmental needs.
  • \n
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • \n
  • Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
  • \n
  • Perform pre-operative patient assessments and preparation, including IV starts as needed.
  • \n
  • Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to all infection prevention and patient safety standards.
  • \n
  • Monitor, assess, and advocate for patients throughout the surgical experience.
  • \n
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • \n
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • \n
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional nursing standards.
  • \n
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • \n
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment.
  • \n
  • Maintain clinical competencies through ongoing education and training.
  • \n
Qualifications\n
    \n
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Vermont or eligibility for Vermont licensure.
  • \n
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent Operating Room nursing experience required.
  • \n
  • Experience in the scrub role, circulating role, or both preferred.
  • \n
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), outpatient surgery, or same-day surgery experience strongly preferred.
  • \n
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • \n
  • ACLS certification required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • \n
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • \n

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday.
  • \n
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and movement of equipment and supplies.
  • \n
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • \n
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to safely perform essential job functions.
