About this job
Job Description
Loan Workout Officer
Our client, a well-respected and growing community bank in Western Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced Loan Workout Officer to oversee its problem loan portfolio and lead the resolution of commercial and consumer credit relationships.
This is a succession opportunity created by an upcoming retirement. The bank is looking to bring someone on in advance to allow for a meaningful transition, providing the opportunity to work alongside the current Loan Workout Officer and gain a thorough understanding of the portfolio, internal processes, and customer relationships.
If you enjoy solving complex credit situations rather than simply managing charge-offs, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with borrowers, lenders, executive management, and legal counsel to develop creative workout strategies that maximize recovery while preserving relationships whenever possible.
Position Overview
The Loan Workout Officer is responsible for managing the bank's criticized and classified loan portfolio, with an emphasis on commercial real estate and commercial & industrial relationships. The position also oversees consumer collections through the supervision of an experienced Collections Officer and serves as a key resource to senior management on asset quality matters.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of commercial workout relationships, primarily CRE with additional C&I exposure.
- Developing and executing loan workout and recovery strategies.
- Working with borrowers to restructure, rehabilitate, or liquidate troubled credits.
- Managing foreclosures, bankruptcies, asset liquidation, and OREO properties when necessary.
- Partnering with outside legal counsel throughout foreclosure and litigation matters.
- Supervising the bank's Collections Officer.
- Working collaboratively with commercial lenders, credit administration, and executive leadership.
- Supporting collection policies, regulatory compliance, and credit reporting requirements.
What We're Looking For
Qualified candidates will typically possess:
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial loan workouts within a bank environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Strong knowledge of commercial real estate and commercial lending.
- Experience with criticized and classified assets, loan restructures, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and liquidation strategies.
- Familiarity with consumer collections and related regulatory requirements.
- Strong credit analysis and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to balance sound credit judgment with a relationship-focused approach to working with borrowers.
- Previous management experience is beneficial but not required for someone ready to step into a leadership role.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a financially strong, privately held community bank that continues to grow while maintaining local decision making and a relationship-driven culture.
Employees enjoy:
- A collaborative executive leadership team.
- Interesting and sophisticated commercial credit relationships.
- Local decision making without excessive bureaucracy.
- Strong work-life balance with flexibility when personal commitments arise.
- A culture that values community involvement and long-term employee success.
- The opportunity to help shape the future of the Special Assets function as the portfolio continues to evolve.
*Please note: The position is intended to be in-office, with flexibility available as needed.
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and production history. Highland Consulting Group believes $90,000-$125,000 to be a reasonable estimate for the base compensation of this role. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonus, a retirement plan with company match, Paid Time Off, and employer-sponsored health insurance.
