Job Description
Position Title: Accounting Manager
Purpose of Role
A publicly traded company is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its team. This position will collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders, play a key role in managing month-end and quarter-end close processes, and assist in developing new or refining existing processes while ensuring adherence to accounting policies and controls.
Job Description
- Assist in managing month-end and quarter-end close processes
- Review select journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ensure the established internal controls framework is adhered to
- Assist in managing the external audit process
- Contribute to technical accounting research, projects, and implementation of new accounting standards or non-standard transactions
- Spearhead process improvement or system change projects impacting the General Ledger and accounting function
- Contribute to preparation and review of 10-Q, 10-K, and other SEC filings
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as FP&A, Legal, Operations, and Tax on recurring and ad hoc reporting requests
- Prepare financial analyses, including variance analysis against budget and evaluation of key business drivers
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and support for development
- Partner with other departments to support overall organizational goals and objectives
Span of Control
- Responsible for leading one or more distinct functional areas
- May manage external vendor relationships
- Work deliverables are often self-initiated
Typical Minimum Education & Experience; Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
- Demonstrated relevant experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred but not required
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
