Job Title: Shipper and Receiver / Shipping Specialist
Job Description
This role focuses on accurately preparing, packaging, and shipping final products while maintaining precise documentation and inventory records. You will process shipments in the ERP system, create packing slips and bills of lading, and ensure that all outgoing shipments are correctly labeled, securely packaged, and picked up by the appropriate carriers. Success in this position relies on careful verification of products and quantities, efficient packaging practices, and safe operation of material handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Verify and sign off on packed items using order numbers, part numbers, descriptions, and quantities to ensure accuracy before shipment.
- Safely package smaller boxed items to maximize product protection while minimizing packaging material waste.
- Securely pack, brace, and protect boxed and unboxed items on pallets or in crates for outgoing shipments.
- Modify or construct custom pallets or crates as needed using raw wood materials to fit and protect products.
- Process shipments in the ERP system and generate accurate packing slips and bills of lading for carriers.
- Ensure all shipments are correctly labeled, scheduled, and picked up by the appropriate carrier.
- Use best practices in packaging to protect products from damage during transit and achieve high safe-delivery rates.
- Complete shipping transactions accurately and completely to maintain precise inventory records.
- Handle general warehouse activities such as loading, unloading, order picking, and staging shipments as required.
- Operate material handling equipment, including sit-down forklifts and overhead cranes, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use power tools such as circular saws, panel saws, table saws, and impact drills when building or modifying pallets and crates.
- Maintain organized shipping and receiving areas, ensuring all paperwork is properly completed, filed, and accessible.
Essential Skills
- 1–2 years of warehouse or shipping experience.
- Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including loading, unloading, picking, and staging orders.
- Ability to verify orders accurately using order numbers, part numbers, descriptions, and quantities.
- Experience with packing, packaging, and protecting products for shipment.
- Basic proficiency with ERP or electronic shipping systems to process shipments and print packing slips and bills of lading.
- Forklift experience, preferably with sit-down forklifts.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment such as overhead cranes and dock levelers after training.
- Ability to safely use power tools, including circular saws, panel saws, table saws, and impact drills.
- Capability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with shipping and receiving.
- Attention to detail to prevent shipping errors and maintain accurate inventory records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Some carpentry experience, particularly in building or modifying pallets and crates from raw wood materials.
- Experience with inventory control and record keeping in a warehouse environment.
- Experiencce in general labor, order picking, and production support.
- Comfort working with packaging optimization to reduce waste while maintaining product protection.
- Willingness to learn and follow best practices for safe equipment operation and product handling.

Work Environment
The role is based in a brand-new, climate-controlled facility with a shop team of approximately 15 people, creating a close-knit and collaborative environment. You will work standard hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimal overtime expected while on contract. The shop uses an ERP system for processing shipments and relies on equipment such as overhead cranes, dock levelers, sit-down forklifts, and common power tools including circular saws, panel saws, table saws, and impact drills. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and efficient material handling, with appropriate personal protective equipment provided for equipment operation and general shop activities.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wentzville, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
