JOB TITLE: Production Manager
DEPARTMENT: Production
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
REVISED: July 15, 2026
Objective: Responsible for the safe and efficient manufacturing and converting production, warehousing and shipping and receiving. Meet all business objectives. Manage all employees and activities of the Production and Shipping & Receiving departments.
Essential Functions
1. Supervise, coordinate and manage all production, converting, warehousing and shipping & receiving operations for the facility. Ensure Production and Shipping and Receiving departments function smoothly, efficiently and safely.
2. Partner with the Plant and other Managers to efficiently schedule and produce manufacturing and converting projects, consistent with Sales needs and operations capabilities
3. Maintain a safe working environment. Partner with Safety Coordinator to conduct daily and monthly safety meetings with Production and S&R team. Ensure accidents are investigated promptly and thoroughly investigated, and corrective action is promptly taken.
4. Ensure compliance with all safety and hazardous materials handling procedures. Ensure work areas are constantly maintained in a hazard-free, safe manner
5. Supervise all Production and S&R personnel including Supervisors. Includes, but is not limited to: assigning duties, scheduling, developing skills through job assignment and training, setting expectations, providing feedback and holding employees accountable
6. Set clear performance, safety, attendance and behavior expectations; provide timely, actionable feedback, and hold employees accountable.
7. Discipline employees when appropriate, following company policy and practice.
8. Accountable for the expense and profitability of your department
9. Perform frequent inspections to ensure Company standards, rules and laws are being followed regarding safety, quality, productivity, efficiency.
10. Partner with Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Maintenance Manager to ensure the proper installation, removal, repair and maintenance of all Company equipment
11. Adhere to and ensure compliance with all policies, rules, regulations and laws, including but not limited to: safety, wage and hour, employment, harassment, discrimination and retaliation
12. Partner with Human Resources in the recruitment, on-boarding and training of employees
13. Ensure ERP is properly used throughout the business: Confirm all Jobs are assigned on the system; confirm lots and make corrections as necessary; Verify Production per job; return takedowns are accurately entered in the system; raw material is added to jobs if necessary
14. Enter everyone in and out of the ERP system at the beginning and end of each day
15. Before jobs are closed and throughout the day, verify that jobs, labor, material used are all entered accurately in the ERP
16. Trouble-shoot Factory track issues
17. Accurately complete and maintain all required documentation and records, including but not limited to: production, shipping & receiving, time & attendance, safety investigations and other safety records
18. Ensure efficient schedules for production/converting, and coordinate incoming and outgoing materials.
19. Lead Cycle counts and other inventory activities
20. Treat all employees with respect in a fair and consistent manner and always behave in a professional and courteous manner
21. Requires the ability to stand and walk for a minimum 8-hour shift; work on-site, overtime, swing or night shift and weekends
22. Reliable on-site attendance is required
23. Requires the ability to constantly lift, carry, push and pull 30 pounds
Other Duties
1. Lead the efforts in partnering with others to improve plant safety, efficiency, cleanliness and cost effectiveness
2. Create efficient staff & production schedule for facility
3. Ensure accurate cycle counts and inventories are conducted as required
4. Partner with the Plant Manager and Finance to develop department budgets. Ensure cost-effective labor, purchasing, expense management, billing and job costing.
5. Ensure raw materials are selected for production with maximum efficiency and minimum waste.
6. Partner with other Leaders to complete production and converting cost analysis
7. Ensure the Sales Team is appraised of order status, providing sufficient time to contact the customer in case of delay or incomplete orders
8. Partner with others to develop short- and long-term goals for the facility
9. Serve as a resource and leader in the implementation of new programs and procedures
10. Travel as required
11. Other duties as assigned
12. Be readily available to the Vice President of Sales, Customer Service and other co-workers
13. Required to attend OSHA training annually; HAZMAT training as needed and remain CPR and First Aid certified
Reporting Relationship
1. Reports to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to the COO
2. Works closely with Maintenance, Customer Service, Accounting, Safety and Human Resources
Minimum Qualifications
1. Four years’ experience as Production Supervisor or Front Line Leader in a manufacturing environment
2. Clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, with all customers, vendors, staff and employees in a professional and effective manner.
3. Quickly develop working knowledge of plant equipment, machinery, processes and products manufactured and converted, and the various grades of paper converted
4. Ability to make decisions logically and analytically
5. The ability to determine production costs and provide solutions to control or reduce them
6. Ability to think mechanically and work with others to determine new procedures and systems to improve plant efficiency and cost effectiveness
7. Be flexible. Respond positively to changing operation’s needs.
8. Partner with and lead employees at all levels of the organization. Utilize staff efficiently
9. High School diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prior experience as Production Manager
2. Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
3. BA or BS degree
4. Working knowledge of all plant equipment and machinery
5. Prior experience in paper or packaging industry
6. Ability to partner with others in developing new products and services

Physical Environment/Working Conditions
This position is in the factory, where temperature fluctuations occur throughout the year and where employees must use eye and hearing protection and be cautious around equipment and forklifts.
