Salary Range

The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $51.71 to $73.48 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.

Team Impact

The Pharmacist Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine is responsible for optimizing the use of medications for adult and pediatric populations in the emergency department. This is achieved through medication order review, participation in code strokes/ resuscitations/ procedures requiring high risk medications, sedation, medication preparation, and provision of medication information. This position works among an interdisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes, reduce medication errors, prevent/detect drug related problems, and reduce costs where appropriate.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities)

  • Provide direct patient care to all adult or pediatric patients as needed in the emergency department. Respond to all code strokes, cardiac arrests, procedural sedations, cardioversions, etc. to assist with pharmacological management.
  • Provide direct clinical review and evaluation of patient specific therapy regimens in the acute care setting and coordinate necessary drug therapy adjustments for individual patients.
  • Provide direct patient care contact for visual assessment of physical and psychological signs of drug-related effects.
  • Lead the organization's medication reconciliation team.
  • Interprets, reviews and evaluates patient medication lists and orders for optimal dose, dosage form, frequency, concentration, duration, drug-drug interaction, drug disease state interaction, drug allergy interaction, drug-nutrient interactions, and potential cross allergenicity, considering the individual patient's special or age-related needs to ensure optimal drug therapy, high quality patient care and timely dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
  • Act as the pharmacy content expert for the development of emergency medicine and transitional care
  • medication-specific initiatives, guidelines, order sets, policies, and educational material.
  • Routinely provide medical, pharmacy and nursing staff education.


What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Education/Accredited Programs: B.S. in Pharmacy required, Pharm. D. preferred. PGY2 in Emergency Medicine/ Critical Care, or 3 years equivalent experience.


  • Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Current, active license to practice pharmacy in New York State; or eligible for reciprocate licensure from another state. ACLS and PALS certifications. BCPS or BCCCP preferred.


  • Skills/Abilities

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to questions quickly and accurately and adapt to rapidly changing situations
    • Knowledge of current pharmacy principles and practices related to medication reconciliation, and drug therapy review
    • Knowledge of pharmacy principles in critical care, toxicology and emergency care setting
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards
    • Ability to work independently within established policies and procedures
    • Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy
