Job Description

The Behavior Coach/Interventionist supports students with behavioral and emotional needs in general and special education settings. This position collaborates with teachers, instructional assistants, school administrators, special education teams, families, and community agencies to develop and implement effective behavioral interventions.

The Behavior Coach/Interventionist provides staff training, classroom coaching, behavioral observations, data analysis, and support with Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans. The goal of this position is to promote positive student behavior, strengthen staff practices, and help students successfully participate in the educational environment.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Science, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Special Education with at least five years of experience working with students with behavioral and emotional disabilities; or
  • Master’s degree in Education or Special Education with at least three years of experience working with students with behavioral and emotional disabilities.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Training, coursework, or experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, also known as PBIS or PBS.
  • Experience working with children with behavioral and emotional disabilities.
  • Experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse populations preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and maintain behavioral data.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, multidisciplinary teams, and community agencies.
  • Proficiency with computers and relevant software applications.
Required Documents and Certifications

Candidates must obtain and maintain the following:

  • Valid driver’s license, front and back.
  • Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints Fingerprint Clearance Card, front and back.
  • Social Security card.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification.
  • College diploma and documentation verifying the required degree.
Essential Job Functions
  • Train and coach staff in effective behavioral intervention strategies for students in general and special education settings.
  • Support the development of structured instruction, curriculum, and classroom practices that promote socially appropriate behavior.
  • Assist staff with organizing classroom spaces and resources to support effective classroom management.
  • Support school teams in developing and implementing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Assist IEP teams with developing and implementing individualized intervention plans that support students’ IEP goals and objectives.
  • Provide training, modeling, and ongoing support to teachers, instructional assistants, and other school staff.
  • Observe student behavior in classroom and school settings.
  • Provide written recommendations regarding behavioral strategies and interventions.
  • Monitor student progress and staff implementation of behavioral supports.
  • Assist staff with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting behavioral data.
  • Help create structured opportunities for students with emotional and behavioral needs to practice appropriate social skills.
  • Provide families with information and support regarding behavioral interventions.
  • Participate in Teacher Assistance Team meetings and other student support meetings, as appropriate.
  • Support parental involvement in the special education evaluation process, when appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison between families, schools, and community agencies.
  • Identify, access, and coordinate appropriate community resources.
  • Help families understand and navigate school services, procedures, and policies.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, reports, and program information.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with district, state, federal, and professional requirements.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by district administration.
