Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a teaching hospital in Maine, requiring a ME or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of ED experience.

  • Night shift schedule: 7P–7A, 12-hour shifts
  • \n
  • 36 hours per week
  • \n
  • Emergency Department within an 89-bed licensed teaching hospital
  • \n
  • ED has 11 beds, including 3 trauma bays, 1 behavioral seclusion room, and 2 negative pressure rooms
  • \n
  • Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, including trauma, stroke, STEMI, and behavioral health cases
  • \n
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4 (variable based on acuity); Tech ratio of 1:11
  • \n
  • Charting system: FirstNet
  • \n
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • \n
  • No on-call requirements
  • \n
  • Holiday coverage as needed
  • \n
  • No floating required
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active ME or compact RN license required
  • \n
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • \n
  • TNCC and NRP preferred
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience (recruiter notes indicate minimum 1 year in specialty; 2 years preferred per facility)
  • \n
  • Experience with EKGs, IV starts, TNKase administration, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP initiation, suture removal, casting assistance, and vent management
  • \n
  • Flu vaccination required for clearance
  • \n
  • 2 professional references within the past year required; at least one from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted)
  • \n
  • Full SSN, driver's license, and copies of all certifications required for consideration
  • \n
  • Permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME (EMMC at 489 State St.) to be eligible
  • \n
  • No previous permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital
  • \n

  • 3-day orientation: 2 days of hospital orientation (including time in the ED) and 1 day with a preceptor
  • \n
  • Unit support includes ED provider, mid-level provider (variable hours), hospitalist (24/7), house supervisor, receptionist (24/7), ED techs, RT (dayshift; available on-call for unstable patients), critical care transport team, and 24/7 security on site
  • \n
  • Charge nurse (CRN) experience is a notable plus — candidates are encouraged to mention this background
  • \n
  • Professional scrubs in any color; hospital scrubs available but not required
  • \n
  • On-site locker/changing room, gym, and free parking available
  • \n
