ABOUT HONEYGROWhoneygrow is a growing, Philadelphia-based fast-casual restaurant built on bringing people together over quality, wholesome, simple food. Our team is what truly sets us apart, and building a distinctive brand is in our DNA. As we grow, we're looking for people who share our passion for building something great to join us.
Core Values:
- Work hard at work worth doing
- Your work directly betters people's lives and happiness
- Enlighten each other to enlighten our guests
- Always be learning, always be improving
- Be mindful of your surroundings
- Exceed expectations
The Training Specialist reports to the Director of Training and Field Communications and has no direct reports. This role owns the end-to-end execution of training content and field communications — turning Director-level strategy and stakeholder input into finished, field-ready materials. You’ll work independently on day-to-day content design and communications, partner directly with Ops and cross-functional subject matter experts, and bring larger projects and initiatives to the Director for sign-off and prioritization.
This is a builder’s role: you’ll see your work show up in restaurants within days — in the courses new team members take, the job aids on the line, and the newsletters the field actually reads.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTraining Content Capture, Design & Development
- Independently analyze learning needs and translate them into effective training solutions, partnering directly with restaurant operators and cross-functional SMEs (Ops, Culinary, HR, Tech)
- Capture and edit photos and video for training materials, ensuring authenticity and alignment with operational standards
- Design and build training content across formats — e-learning courses, videos, job aids, and help/how-to articles — using adult learning principles and instructional design methodology (ADDIE, SAM)
- Manage the end-to-end translation process for training materials and field communications, ensuring output meets honeygrow's Spanish register standards
- Vet translations for accuracy and field credibility, partnering with bilingual Ops stakeholders to validate after publishing
- Own day-to-day design decisions independently; bring completed content and larger initiatives to the Director for sign-off
Resource Library & Systems Stewardship
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and discoverability of training content across all systems — LMS, Help Center, and resource libraries
- Manage the LMS end to end: user management, content upload and organization, and reporting
Field Communications
- Own production of recurring weekly/monthly newsletters, per established format, tone, and cadence
- Support culinary testing and menu rollouts through associated comms, surveys, and training materials
- Draft and field surveys to gather feedback on training effectiveness and field sentiment
Training Delivery, As Needed
- Conduct and facilitate in-person, webinar, and group training on restaurant operations topics, as directed by the Director
- Support planning and scheduling of trainings
- Strong needs-assessment instinct — you identify the real training gap, not just the requested deliverable
- Organized under pressure — you manage multiple projects and deadlines with a sense of urgency
- Comfortable with ambiguity — you demonstrate curiosity and composure when the path isn’t fully defined
- Training Effectiveness and Adoption — Development of scalable training content that improves learner readiness, operational consistency, and speed to proficiency for restaurant teams, measured through LMS completion rates and assessment scores.
- Communication Impact — Improvement in field understanding, engagement, and sentiment regarding newsletters and field comms, measured through feedback, adoption, and operational execution.
- Resource Accessibility and Usability — Continuous improvement in the organization, discoverability, and usability of the LMS, Help Center, and resource libraries.
- Content Delivery Speed — Consistent, on-cadence production of training materials and communications against stakeholder requests and established formats.
- 2+ years of instructional design or training content development experience, or a degree in Instructional/Learning Design (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Working knowledge of instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM) and adult learning principles
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone to a defined brand voice
- Basic photography and video production/editing skills
- Ability to work onsite 4 days/week at our Philadelphia Restaurant Support Center
- Ability to travel to restaurant locations as needed (approximately 5–10%)
- Preferred: Experience with LMS platforms and e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Wisetail, Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Premiere Pro)
- Preferred: Restaurant or multi-unit operations training experience
- Preferred: Experience managing multilingual or translated content, with a strong eye for tone and consistency even without personal fluency in the target language
