Job Description
Telecommunications Project Manager
Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Contract: W2 only, 12 month contract
Pay: $58/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
Overview
Responsible for fiber outside plant (OSP) design and build activities supporting critical utility and nuclear communications infrastructure. The role requires hands-on experience with fiber optic systems, microwave radio systems, and network design, supporting secure, highly reliable telecommunications networks used for nuclear generation facilities, utility operations, physical security systems, and grid communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Must-Have Fiber outside plant (OSP) design and build experience
- Proven telecommunications engineering experience with a strong focus on:
- Outside plant (OSP) fiber optic network design
- Microwave system engineering
- Deep knowledge of fiber optic systems, including:
- Cable types
- Splicing techniques
- Connectors
- Aerial and underground construction practices
- Experience with microwave radio system design and RF engineering:
- Path loss calculations
- Antenna propagation
- Frequency coordination
- Familiarity with:
- MPLS / Carrier Ethernet
- TDM systems (SONET/SDH, DCS, channel banks)
- Strong understanding of:
- IP networking fundamentals
- Integration between telecom transport and IP-based networks
- Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, GE Smallworld), CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation), and network inventory / OSS systems (e.g., ConnectMaster or similar)
- Knowledge of standards and regulations:
- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Telcordia / Bellcore standards
- IEEE communications standards
- NERC standards (or similar)
- Ability to design compliant solutions aligned with safety regulations, utility policies, and industry best practices
- Several years of telecom OSP engineering or network design experience within electric utilities, nuclear generation facilities, power generation, transmission organizations, or other critical infrastructure environments preferred.
- Experience supporting highly available communications networks used for generation facilities, substations, control centers, operational technology (OT), and physical security systems.
- Familiarity with utility and nuclear industry expectations for reliability, redundancy, compliance, and system availability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics / Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field
- Equivalent work experience with relevant technical certifications is acceptable
- Preferred Skills
- Several years of telecom OSP engineering or network design experience (utility or similar industry preferred)
