Location: Seattle, WA 98134
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday | 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
Duration: 4 months contract to protentional hire
Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Department: Hematology
Pay rate: 40/hr
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with a strong background in Hematology to join our laboratory team in Seattle, WA. This position is supporting the department during a long-term employee FMLA leave. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience performing high-complexity hematology testing, analyzing patient specimens, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results. Candidates with 4–5 years of Hematology experience and ASCP certification (or equivalent) are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-complexity laboratory testing in the Hematology department according to established laboratory procedures.
- Receive, process, analyze, and evaluate patient specimens while ensuring specimen integrity.
- Review, verify, and release laboratory test results accurately and promptly.
- Perform quality control, instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting according to laboratory policies.
- Follow all laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and result reporting.
- Maintain accurate documentation of quality control, proficiency testing, maintenance, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all laboratory safety regulations.
- Report STAT and critical laboratory results according to established departmental procedures.
- Identify testing issues, perform troubleshooting, and notify senior laboratory staff when necessary.
- Participate in proficiency testing and maintain documentation consistent with patient specimen testing.
- Maintain laboratory inventory by monitoring reagent expiration dates, received dates, and opened dates.
- Assist with training on new procedures and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, safety training, and regulatory inspections as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related Life Science.
- Candidates educated outside the United States must provide an IERF credential evaluation.
- U.S.-educated candidates must provide official academic transcripts.
- Eligible for or currently holding ASCP, AMT, or equivalent national certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASCP Generalist or Hematology Certification (Preferred)
- 4–5 years of Hematology laboratory experience
- Experience performing high-complexity clinical laboratory testing.
- Previous experience in a production or reference laboratory environment.
- Strong knowledge of hematology analyzers, quality assurance, and quality control procedures.
