Tool & Die Repairman – Automotive Tier 1 Stamping

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Repairman to join our Tier 1 automotive stamping facility. In this role, you will safely maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-speed progressive, transfer, and specialty stamping dies. Your primary focus is ensuring maximum press uptime and strict adherence to IATF 16949 quality standards for our core product lines, including automotive door strikers and specialty high-strength fasteners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production Die Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair high-volume progressive and transfer dies directly inside the press or on the bench to minimize production downtime.
  • Precision Tooling Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, timing adjustments, and component replacements on critical striker and fastener tooling.
  • Manual Machining & Fabrication: Set up and operate toolroom equipment—including surface grinders, mills, lathes, and radial drills—to reverse-engineer, modify, or build replacement die components.
  • Die Welding: Perform precise TIG and MIG welding repairs on tool steel sections, cutting edges, and draw forms.
  • Quality & Tolerance Verification: Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks) to verify tight tolerances, ensuring all parts meet strict automotive safety specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Partner with Quality and Production teams to address recurring die defects, reduce scrap, and optimize strip layouts.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Tool & Die repair experience in a high-volume Tier 1 Automotive Stamping environment.
  • Industry Expertise: Direct experience troubleshooting heavy-gauge progressive dies, coining operations, or complex form tools used in fast-paced hardware manufacturing.
  • Technical Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a registered Tool & Die Apprenticeship or Journeyman card is highly preferred.
  • Welding Proficiency: Proven competence in tool steel welding (TIG/MIG) for die refurbishments.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Advanced ability to interpret complex tool drawings, strip layouts, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to [50] lbs, operate overhead cranes, and work safely around large stamping presses.

Shift, Compensation, and Benefits

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Split Shift: 9:00am until 5:30pm Monday through Friday
