An innovative and rapidly growing technology company in the East Bay Area is seeking an experienced Corporate & Employment Attorney to provide interim legal support during a period of increased workload and ongoing business initiatives. This attorney will partner closely with legal, HR, and business stakeholders to advise on employment-related matters while also supporting a variety of corporate legal functions.
The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with strong employment law expertise and experience supporting fast-paced, growth-oriented organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise HR and business leaders on employment law matters, including employee relations, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, and workplace investigations.
- Review and provide guidance on employment policies, employee handbooks, and internal HR procedures.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with a strong emphasis on California employment regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, and restrictive covenant provisions.
- Conduct legal research and provide practical recommendations regarding employment risks and compliance issues.
- Assist with responding to pre-litigation employment claims and support outside counsel with active litigation matters.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including NDAs, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, and service contracts.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support corporate initiatives, operational projects, and general legal matters.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice to internal stakeholders on corporate governance and business operations as needed.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar; California Bar membership preferred.
- 5+ years of corporate and employment law experience, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
- Strong working knowledge of California employment law and related compliance issues.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and advising on employee relations matters.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Ability to independently manage a high-volume workload and prioritize competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Prior experience supporting technology, manufacturing, clean energy, or other high-growth companies is a plus.
Preferred Experience
- In-house legal department experience.
- Exposure to litigation management and outside counsel coordination
- Ability and willingness to travel to WA or CA as needed
