Are you eager to use your food service experience to guide others toward building practical skills that support positive growth? As a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the Department of Corrections, you will help inmate workers learn safe and efficient kitchen practices at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest. This role allows you to share your knowledge while supporting daily meal preparation for the institution. Your leadership will help maintain strong operations and encourage productive development within the kitchen environment.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position leads inmate workers in food service activities by providing hands-on instruction, reviewing work quality, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. Daily responsibilities support the preparation of meals, the upkeep of kitchen areas, and the safe operation of food service equipment. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Preparation: Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, and serve meals according to recipes and schedules
- Sanitation Oversight: Inspect kitchen areas and equipment to confirm compliance with safety and sanitation rules
- Supply Management: Request, receive, and store food and supplies while following proper rotation procedures
- Work Supervision: Plan assignments, review performance, and maintain records for inmate workers
- Inmate Control: Maintain care, custody, and control of inmates during kitchen duties

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours include 1st shift (4:30 AM to 12:30 PM) or 2nd shift (12:00 PM to 8:00 PM), with rotating days off. Your work schedule will be determined.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
