Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a medically fragile student in a 1:1 paraprofessional role just outside Henrico, VA. This position begins with a 9-week trial period from August 24th to October 23rd, with a strong likelihood of extending through the full academic year. Working closely with a student who requires dedicated support, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia paraprofessional license or completion of an Associate’s degree or higher
- Strong experience working with medically fragile students, including seizure monitoring and response
- Skilled in wheelchair transfers, mobility assistance, and supporting daily personal care needs, including toileting
- Compassionate demeanor and a proactive, patient approach to individualized care
- Ability to demonstrate dependability, adaptability, and effective communication with school staff and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 assistance to a student throughout the school day, ensuring safety and engagement
- Attend to medical and physical needs, including monitoring for seizures and coordinating with medical professionals as directed
- Offer mobility support, operate wheelchair equipment safely, and assist with toileting or other personal care tasks as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and nursing staff to support educational and health plans
- Maintain thorough documentation of daily activities, observations, and communication
