Job Description
A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced paraprofessional to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a medically fragile student in a school setting near Chesterfield, VA. This contract role begins with a 9-week trial period from August 24 to October 23, with the potential to continue for the full school year based on performance and fit. The position offers a 32-hour work week and competitive pay ranging from $50 to $55 per hour.
Ideal candidates are compassionate, reliable, and have prior experience supporting students with complex medical needs, including seizure protocols, wheelchair mobility, and personal care such as toileting. You’ll play a vital role in the student’s daily routines and safety, requiring excellent communication and responsiveness.
Qualifications:
- Current Virginia paraprofessional license OR an Associate’s degree or higher (required—must provide upon application)
- Previous experience as a paraprofessional in a school environment
- Demonstrated experience assisting medically fragile students
- Confidence in responding to seizures and understanding emergency protocols
- Skilled in providing wheelchair transfers and toileting assistance
- Strong sense of professionalism and discretion with sensitive information
- Collaborative spirit and willingness to work closely with classroom staff and medical teams
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 support to a student with significant medical needs throughout the school day
- Monitor for health concerns, especially seizure activity, and respond promptly
- Assist with mobility, transfers, and all aspects of personal hygiene and toileting
- Communicate effectively with educators, families, and healthcare professionals
- Support student learning, comfort, and dignity in an inclusive setting
