Description\n

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position in Nampa, Idaho, requiring a minimum of 1-2 years of ED experience and a full suite of emergency certifications including TNCC and ENPC.

  • Acute care hospital emergency department setting with 24 rooms, 4 low-acuity bays, and 1 dedicated trauma/crash room
  • \n
  • Trauma Level IV facility that is a STEMI and Stroke receiving center; complex cases (interventional STEMI, stroke intervention) are transferred to higher-level facilities
  • \n
  • Fast Track available using low-acuity bays; triage area is staffed 24/7, though travelers are not typically assigned to triage
  • \n
  • Patient population spans all ages, with approximately 20% pediatric (under 18); complex pediatric cases are transferred to Boise
  • \n
  • Common diagnoses include respiratory issues, abdominal pain, chest pain, STEMIs, strokes, walk-in trauma, outdoor activity injuries, and farming-related injuries; serves a large and diverse migrant worker population
  • \n
  • Average daily patient volume is 110–120; nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4
  • \n
  • Common drips include standard ED drips and conscious sedation
  • \n
  • RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips
  • \n
  • RNs primarily draw labs; phlebotomy assists with difficult sticks
  • \n
  • EKGs are performed by RNs or ED techs
  • \n
  • RT is available 24/7 and manages vents, CPAP, and BiPAP; RNs manage nasal cannula and troubleshoot as needed
  • \n
  • X-ray and CT are located in the same hallway; transport staff retrieve patients
  • \n
  • Charting system is Epic
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • \n
  • Self-scheduling is available, subject to manager balancing
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required
  • \n
  • Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
  • \n
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • \n
  • Floating to sister ER locations in Meridian and Boise is possible but infrequent
  • \n
  • 13-week contract

Requirements\n

  • Active Idaho RN license or compact RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • \n
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC — all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted
  • \n
  • Minimum 1–2 years of ED experience required
  • \n
  • Comfort with pediatric patients required
  • \n
  • Ability to manage ED patient flow independently
  • \n
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • \n
  • Valid driver's license required
  • \n
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted
  • \n

  • Fast-paced environment with very quick room turnover; downtime is minimal and a new patient is typically ready before the current one is discharged
  • \n
  • Protocols are run in the lobby for waiting patients, including IV placement and lab orders, to improve throughput
  • \n
  • Charge nurse is available 24/7 and does not carry a patient assignment
  • \n
  • Support staff on each shift includes ED techs, behavioral health sitters as needed, and a unit secretary
  • \n
  • Four dedicated behavioral health rooms are equipped with secure "garage door" closures to safely restrict access to supplies and monitors
  • \n
  • Up to 7 physicians cover the ED in a 24-hour period; a mid-level provider is on from noon to midnight, and only 1 MD covers from 2:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • \n
  • Facility has a collegial, team-oriented culture with an experienced staff; social activities outside of work are common
  • \n
  • Scrubs of any color are acceptable as long as they are clean and professional
  • \n
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • \n
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • \n
  • Former permanent employees must have been away from the facility for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • \n
