Key Responsibilities of a COTA:

·        Collaborate with Occupational Therapists (OT) to create individualized rehabilitation plans aimed at improving residents' functionality and quality of life.

·        Implement therapy activities that are designed to meet the unique needs and capabilities of each resident under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist (OTR/L).

·        Assist residents in performing daily activities, helping them build independence and engage in meaningful tasks to enhance their well-being.

·        Monitor residents’ progress during therapy sessions, offering support, motivation, and encouragement to achieve therapy goals.

·        Educate residents on the proper use of specialized equipment and assistive devices to promote independence and improve function in daily life.

·        Supervise therapy activities to ensure the safety, efficacy, and proper implementation of therapy interventions.

·        Maintain accurate records by documenting residents’ progress, treatment sessions, and outcomes in the facility’s rehabilitation software.

·        Communicate with OTR/L about residents' progress, concerns, and adjustments needed to treatment plans to ensure optimal outcomes.

Qualifications for COTAs:

·        Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program.

·        Current and valid New York State OTA License.

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·        A compassionate and patient-centered approach to therapy and resident care.

·        Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
