Job description:

There is an immediate opening for a Laboratory Scientist, Chemist, or Medical Technologist with experience operating analytical instrumentation in a medical laboratory setting. The position would require analysis of urine samples, reviewing data, and preparing urine samples for testing. Experience with mass spectrometry would be a plus. Proficiency with PC computers is required.

Responsibilities include receiving and processing test orders, collecting specimens using established protocols for sample processing and reporting, and ensuring accuracy and compliance in all laboratory processes. The Medical Laboratory Scientist adheres to Quality Control and Quality Assurance standards and follows all regulatory and safety requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently performs consistently moderate and complex clinical test.
  • Exhibits skills and proficiency in applying technical principles and techniques of medical technology.
  • Performs test calibrations and runs quality control material at appropriate intervals on LCMS and Immunoassay.
  • Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to establish criteria in testing procedure.
  • Provide quality test results for patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Follow laboratory’s procedure for specimen handling and processing test analyses, reporting and maintaining record of patient test results.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies.
  • Documents all quality control, calibration and maintenance activities,.
  • Demonstrates proficiency testing samples as patient specimens and completes attestation statements.
  • Performs preventive and corrective actions on instruments as prescribed by manufacturer specifications and/or laboratory procedures.
  • Participates in available continuing education and maintains licensure/certification.
  • Evaluates the acceptability of routine analysis prior to releasing patient reports.
  • Takes appropriate action in response to unusual or unexpected results, and documents action taken.
  • Support development of LCMS methods and protocols

Requirements

  • An associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science or related field
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in the lab
  • Strong aseptic technique and laboratory skills
  • Ability to work well as an individual performer and part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • ASCP Certification

Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, and certification. Hiring compensation range starts from $25.00 /hour.

Physical Demands:

Working Conditions:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to utilize all laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuges, various analyzers; visual acuity sufficient to read procedure manuals, interpret various reactions as to color and intensity, with or without visual aids; auditory acuity sufficient to hear telephone, timer, warning signals, and conversation, with or without hearing aids. Must be able to lift and move supplies from one area to another.
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
  • Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
  • No weekends, nights or holiday hours.
