Job Title: Activity Leader - Part Time, rotating weekends and holidays
Department: Activities/Recreation
Reports To: Activities Director

Position Summary

The Activity Leader assists in planning and leading recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic activities that promote residents' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The Activity Leader encourages resident participation while ensuring activities are enjoyable, meaningful, and tailored to individual interests and abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead group and one-on-one activities under the direction of the Activities Director.

  • Encourage resident participation and provide assistance as needed.

  • Assist with planning monthly activity calendars and special events.

  • Set up and clean up activity areas before and after programs.

  • Transport residents to and from activities safely.

  • Document resident attendance and participation according to facility policy.

  • Visit residents who are unable to attend group activities.

  • Decorate the facility for holidays and special events.

  • Assist with community outings when scheduled.

  • Maintain activity supplies and notify the Activities Director when additional materials are needed.

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.

  • Follow resident rights, confidentiality (HIPAA), infection control, and safety procedures.

  • Report any changes in residents' physical or emotional condition to nursing staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous experience working with older adults is preferred but not required.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Compassionate, patient, creative, and enthusiastic personality.

  • Ability to push wheelchairs, assist with resident transport, and lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed throughout the nursing facility, including resident rooms, common areas, and outdoors during events.

  • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays for special programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to engage residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to adapt activities to meet residents' individual needs.

  • Friendly, positive attitude with a commitment to excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching.

  • Ability to transport residents in wheelchairs.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
