Senior Associate Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Associate Attorney to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will take primary responsibility for managing complex civil litigation matters across professional liability, medical malpractice, securities litigation, labor & employment, and insurance broker liability. This role requires strong trial experience, excellent advocacy and client management skills, and the ability to lead junior attorneys and collaborate with partners to deliver exceptional legal results.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume caseload from intake through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
- Develop and implement litigation strategies for matters in professional liability, medical malpractice, securities litigation, labor & employment, and civil litigation.
- Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, briefs, motions, and other court filings with exceptional quality and attention to detail.
- Handle depositions, witness preparation, evidentiary hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials; present arguments and examine witnesses when required.
- Advise clients on liability exposure, risk mitigation, settlement strategy, and case valuation; maintain strong client relationships and provide timely updates.
- Coordinate with expert witnesses, consultants, and outside vendors to support case development and trial readiness.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work product of junior associates, paralegals, and support staff to ensure consistent quality and professional development.
- Collaborate with partners on business development initiatives, pitch work, and cross-selling opportunities to grow practice areas.
- Manage billing, timekeeping, and matter budgets; ensure compliance with firm policies and client billing requirements.
- Stay current on developments in relevant practice areas, industry trends, and changes in case law and regulations.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the NY state bar; bonus points for NJ admission
- Minimum 3+ years of litigation experience, with substantial work in professional liability and medical malpractice; experience in securities litigation, labor & employment, civil litigation, or insurance broker liability strongly preferred.
- Proven trial and hearing experience, including depositions and courtroom advocacy.
- Demonstrated ability to lead case teams, supervise junior attorneys, and manage complex matters from inception through resolution.
- Superior legal research, analytical, and writing skills; ability to draft persuasive motions and appellate briefs.
- Excellent oral advocacy, negotiation, and client counseling skills; comfortable interacting with corporate and individual clients.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with litigation technology, e-discovery platforms, and document management systems.
- High ethical standards, professional demeanor, and commitment to client service.
- Willingness to travel as needed and participate in business development activities.
