Chico Pet Vet is a modern, full-service, non-profit hospital. We serve our community by providing high-quality care to all animals. We pride ourselves on giving equivalent medical services to animals seeking a home through our partnership with Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue.
As a Veterinary Receptionist at Chico Pet Vet, you will be the first point of contact for clients, playing a key role in delivering excellent customer service and supporting the smooth operation of our medium-sized team. You will manage appointment scheduling, handle communications, and assist with clerical and payment tasks using both proprietary veterinary software and general scheduling tools. Your role also includes providing detailed pet care instructions and follow-up communications to ensure a positive client experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and manage front-desk reception duties
- Schedule and confirm appointments using specialized software
- Handle inbound phone calls and client inquiries professionally
- Maintain accurate client and patient records in the system
- Process payments and manage billing transactions
- Provide pet owners with basic care instructions and follow-up reminders
- Support clerical duties including data entry and document organization
- Communicate appointment reminders and follow-up calls
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years experience in veterinary reception
· Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
· Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, Client Service Representative (receptionist) duties, and telephone techniques.
· Demonstrated ability to perform clerical work with speed and accuracy, use a multiple-line telephone system, and handle cash and other forms of payment.
· Experience assembling patient records, obtaining relevant information from clients, and accurately entering a variety of information in patient records.
· Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
· Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
· A commitment to outstanding client service.
· Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.
· Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time during each shift.
· Ability to stay on task and work energetically for entire shift per day.
· Preferred: Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures and general computer skills.
· Preferred: Ability to type 45 words per minute and use a 10-key adding machine.
