Job Description

This role focuses on welding and assembling dump bodies, ice management systems, and plow equipment onto truck bodies in a busy but small manufacturing shop. You will work across multiple bays, using MIG welding, fabrication equipment, and hand and power tools to install and assemble custom components according to blueprints and measurements.

Responsibilities

  • MIG weld cab shields and other components onto truck bodies that are not welded by the manufacturing shop.
  • Install dump bodies, plow mounts, plow equipment, and ice management bodies in the heavy bay and other bays as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to determine welding, fabrication, and installation requirements.
  • Measure and mark materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure proper fit and alignment of components.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as a manual brake press, punch press, ironworker, and saws to size, shape, and form metal parts.
  • Use hand and power tools to fabricate, assemble, and install components on truck bodies.
  • Assist with mechanical assembly tasks related to hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical systems as needed.
  • Perform basic machine operation and maintenance tasks to keep equipment in safe working condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the shop.
  • Collaborate with team members across different bays and participate in cross-training to support production needs.

Essential Skills

  • MIG welding experience, including welding on mild steel components.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Blueprint reading experience to support welding, fabrication, and installation work.
  • Experience operating band saws and related machine tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform installation and assembly tasks.
  • Strong attendance and reliability in a production environment.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively with a team.
  • At least 1 year of welding experience (does not need to be production or regular experience).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical assembly or installation (1+ year preferred).
  • Experience with electrical maintenance, repair, or machine operation.
  • Experience in installation assembly or mechanical assembly in a shop or manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with using a variety of hand and power tools for fabrication and assembly.
  • Comfort working with diesel trucks and related equipment in a shop environment.

Why Work Here?

The company offers steady work with opportunities for overtime and regular performance-based pay increases, including average annual raises and a 90-day review with potential raises. The environment encourages cross-training, skill development, and long-term stability for individuals who value strong attendance, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This is a shop-based role working primarily on diesel trucks that drive in and out of the facility, so you can expect some fumes and a hands-on, industrial setting. You will work alongside approximately 20 colleagues in the shop, creating a team-oriented environment with active collaboration across different bays. These are first-shift positions with hours from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday shifts currently run with the same hours and are mandatory at this time, resulting in an average workweek of 50–55 hours, with the expectation that Saturday work will decrease once the team is fully staffed. The role involves regular use of welding equipment, fabrication machinery, and a wide range of hand and power tools in a physically active setting.
