Yard Jockey (CDL Required)

Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with up to 10 hours of overtime per week
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
Position Type: Contract with Possibility of Hire

CDL & Yard Truck/Tractor Experience Required

We are seeking an experienced Yard Jockey to support warehouse and distribution operations in Houston, TX. The ideal Yard Jockey will safely move trailers throughout the yard, ensure equipment is in safe operating condition, and help maintain efficient shipping and receiving operations. This Yard Jockey position is ideal for a dependable CDL driver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to safety, quality, and productivity. The successful Yard Jockey will play a key role in supporting daily logistics and warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a yard truck/yard tractor to move trailers throughout the yard and position them at shipping doors.
• Inspect trailers before movement to ensure they are safe and ready for loading.
• Meet or exceed warehouse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of the yard truck and work area.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency efforts.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and palletizing duties as needed.
• Communicate effectively with warehouse staff and leadership regarding trailer movements and operational needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by warehouse leadership.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
• No driving violations within the past two years.
• Previous Yard Jockey, yard truck, yard tractor, or trailer spotting experience required.
• Prior forklift or heavy equipment experience preferred.
• Manufacturing and warehouse experience preferred.
• Experience using inventory scanners and performing basic equipment maintenance is a plus.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office; SAP experience is a plus.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, and efficiency.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, and handle up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to frequently enter and exit a yard truck throughout the workday.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
• Comfortable driving in reverse and maneuvering trailers in tight spaces.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed, including occasional extended shifts.
