Manufacturing Equipment Technician

 

The Manufacturing Equipment Technician maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and improves equipment used in fabrication, machining, assembly, and plastic fusion operations. This hands-on role applies mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fabrication skills to keep production equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The technician performs preventive maintenance, responds to equipment issues, supports capital equipment projects, and implements practical improvements that reduce downtime and improve manufacturing performance. This position works closely with Production, Quality, equipment suppliers, and outside service providers.

Main Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Documentation

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and modify manufacturing equipment and production systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical issues and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
  • Repair or replace components such as motors, drives, sensors, relays, cylinders, valves, pumps, gearboxes, and bearings.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, industrial controls, and automated systems, and perform preventive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Modify and fabricate basic tooling, fixtures, gauges, and equipment aids to support production.
  • Develop proficiency in plastic fusion technologies and related manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance procedures, equipment records, repair histories, and troubleshooting information.
  • Document equipment repairs, modifications, and improvements, and update technical documentation when systems or components change.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and outside service providers during repairs, installations, upgrades, and technical troubleshooting. Participate in equipment runoffs, design reviews, capability studies, and production launches, and recommend repairs, upgrades, modifications, or replacement based on operational needs.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, relays, and industrial control systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.

 

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:

  • Associate degree or technical certification (preferred NOT required) in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, manufacturing technology, mechatronics, electrical technology, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • At least five years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying manufacturing equipment in an industrial environment.
