Job Description
This role involves performing high-quality welding using multiple processes in a large, high-volume fabrication environment that produces complex ferrous and non-ferrous metal products. You will interpret blueprints, follow Welding Procedure Specifications, and use various cutting and welding equipment to support a wide range of project-based work.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding using FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SMAW processes in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in at least one of the main welding processes and apply that expertise to complex fabrication tasks.
- Set and adjust welding machine parameters with guidance from a supervisor, ensuring proper heat, wire feed, and other critical settings.
- Read and interpret blueprints accurately to determine weld locations, sizes, and sequences.
- Use oxy-fuel, plasma arc, and carbon arc cutting equipment safely and effectively to cut and prepare materials for welding.
- Follow written and verbal instructions from the department supervisor to complete assigned jobs on schedule.
- Apply proper welding techniques to fabricate ferrous and non-ferrous metal components for a variety of project-based work.
- Inspect welds for quality, ensuring adherence to specifications and making adjustments as needed.
- Handle and move materials safely, including lifting up to 50 lbs and positioning parts for welding.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety rules and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Adapt to new welding techniques and processes as needed to support evolving production requirements.
- Work extended shifts and overtime as required to meet production demands, particularly on second shift.
Essential Skills
- Understanding of the main welding processes: FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SMAW.
- Advanced proficiency in at least one of the four primary welding processes.
- Minimum 2 years of MIG welding experience.
- Minimum 2 years of Flux Core welding experience.
- Minimum 2 years of blueprint reading experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for fabrication and welding.
- Ability to set parameters on welding machines with guidance from a supervisor.
- Ability to understand and follow information listed on Welding Procedure Specifications.
- Proficiency with oxy-fuel, plasma arc and carbon arc cutting equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions from a department supervisor.
- Ability to learn and adapt new welding techniques as required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform frequent bending, stooping and twisting.
- Ownership of a weld helmet and steel toe boots.
This is a Permanent position based out of Alma, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $52000.00/yr.
