Role Overview
The Manager of Welding Technology is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, standardization, and continuous improvement of all welding technologies, processes, certifications, and technical capabilities across ASC's manufacturing operations. This position serves as the company's welding subject matter expert, providing technical leadership for welding engineering, automation, training, quality assurance, and workforce development initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines extensive welding expertise with leadership, process improvement, and manufacturing technology experience. This role plays a critical part in advancing ASC's welding capabilities, improving product quality, supporting automation initiatives, driving operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute ASC's welding technology strategy to support business growth, operational excellence, and manufacturing innovation.
- Establish, standardize, and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, specifications, and best practices across all ASC facilities.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for welding processes, equipment, materials, procedures, and code compliance.
- Lead the development, qualification, and maintenance of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
- Ensure compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, customer, and internal quality requirements.
- Partner with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Safety teams to resolve welding-related quality and production challenges.
- Analyze welding performance metrics, defect trends, repair rates, productivity data, and nonconformance reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead implementation of welding automation, robotics, advanced welding technologies, and process optimization initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend new welding equipment, tooling, technologies, and manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and quality.
- Support new product development efforts by providing welding design guidance and manufacturability recommendations.
- Manage welding training, certification, qualification, and workforce development programs in collaboration with the Lead Welding Trainer.
- Mentor supervisors, engineers, trainers, and production personnel on welding technologies and best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, throughput, quality performance, cost reduction, and operational standardization.
- Maintain strong relationships with equipment suppliers, certification organizations, technical consultants, and industry partners.
- Develop and manage department budgets related to welding technology, equipment, training, and capital investments.
- Support strategic planning efforts and manufacturing expansion initiatives involving welding operations.

What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive welding experience within manufacturing, fabrication, heavy industrial, or engineered product environments.
- Proven experience leading welding technology, process improvement, automation, or welding engineering initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and related technologies.
- Strong knowledge of AWS codes, welding procedure qualification requirements, metallurgy, and fabrication standards.
- Experience developing and managing WPS, PQR, WPQ, and welding qualification programs.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional projects and technical teams.
- Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Educator (CWE), Welding Engineer credentials, or similar certifications preferred.
- Experience with robotic welding, automation systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies preferred.

Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing environments.
- Frequent exposure to welding operations, machinery, noise, fumes, and varying manufacturing conditions.
- Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to all company safety procedures.
- Ability to inspect welding operations, evaluate equipment, and support hands-on process improvement initiatives.
- Ability to stand, walk, and navigate manufacturing facilities for extended periods.
- Ability to travel between ASC locations and supplier facilities as required.
