The Bindu Institute supports wounded warriors living with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injuries, or other neurological conditions. We partner with warriors long-term, helping them navigate their personal paths to independence. Our interdisciplinary approach promotes wellness, connection, and empowerment through meaningful community engagement and structured support.
Position Summary:
The Recreational Therapist will play a vital role in helping clients re-engage with life through purposeful leisure, wellness, and community-based activities. This role combines the therapeutic benefits of recreation with direct functional support, building on each individual’s strengths and aligning with their personal goals. You’ll use recreation as a tool for rehabilitation, community reintegration, and life satisfaction, while also supporting areas like household management, communication, and self-advocacy.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Implement recreational therapy interventions in alignment with each client's individualized care plan.
  • Design and facilitate leisure activities that support emotional well-being, cognitive functioning, and physical wellness.
  • Support clients in re-integrating into their communities by participating in social, volunteer, educational, and recreational activities.
  • Teach and promote independent use of adaptive equipment and community resources for accessible recreation.
  • Foster positive social skills and build confidence through one-on-one and small group recreational engagement.
  • Encourage client-led choices and empower informed decision-making related to activities, schedules, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support therapeutic goals across life domains.
  • Provide support for basic life skills (budgeting, household routines, healthy habits) as part of holistic care.
  • Offer assistance with safe mobility in both home and community environments.
  • Transport clients as needed to community-based activities, ensuring safety and fostering independence.
  • Deliver consistent, clear documentation of client progress and participation in Microsoft Word or Excel.
  • Attend required team meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development sessions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field preferred.
  • State Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • 1–2 years' experience working with adults with TBI or developmental disabilities required.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic interventions focused on wellness, motivation, and social engagement.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and auto insurance (100/300/50 coverage with business use).
  • Ability to lift 25–80 lbs regularly.
  • Clear results on criminal background and driving record checks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with the care team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Benefits:
  • Flexible schedule
  • Mileage and work-related expenses reimbursed
Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday (varies based on client needs)
