The Position: We are seeking an experienced Tax Director / Senior Tax Manager to join our growing Phoenix office. You'll lead and scale the Phoenix office, focused primarily within our Corporate Tax Group (Corps, Tax Provisions, ASC740) serving high-profile corporate clients, spanning start-up ventures to Fortune 500 multi-national businesses. You'll have a heavy focus on tax compliance, planning, tax leadership, paired with business development, while scaling and leading the Phoenix office.
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity with Partner-track available for an accomplished tax professional who enjoys serving as a trusted advisor to high-growth Corporate businesses while mentoring future leaders and helping expand a thriving tax practice.
You'll work directly with Partners and executive leadership to oversee complex tax planning, consulting, and compliance engagements across a sophisticated portfolio of high-profile Corporate clients. This position offers significant autonomy, client-facing leadership, and a defined path toward future Partner opportunities.
What You'll Do:
- Lead complex tax compliance, consulting, and planning engagements for Corporate (Corps, ASC740, Tax Provisions).
- Serve as the primary relationship POC and trusted advisor for key clients across multiple industries; consisting of high-profile clients; spanning start-up ventures to Fortune 500 multi-national businesses.
- Develop proactive tax planning strategies that improve tax efficiency while supporting clients' long-term business objectives.
- Review complex federal, state, and multi-state tax returns while ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Advise business owners on entity structuring, ownership transitions, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, and tax-efficient growth strategies.
- Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while overseeing staffing, budgets, timelines, and client expectations.
- Research complex tax issues and communicate practical planning recommendations to clients and engagement teams.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Tax Managers, Seniors, and Staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Partner with firm leadership on practice growth, business development initiatives, and strategic client opportunities.
- Participate in recruiting, training, and leadership development efforts across the tax practice.
- Stay current on evolving federal and state tax legislation impacting privately held businesses and their owners.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Active CPA license required.
- 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
- Strong experience serving high-profile Corporate clients; spanning start-up ventures to Fortune 500 multi-national businesses.
- Expertise in Corporate, ASC740s, Tax Provisions
- Technical expertise in tax compliance, planning, and advisory
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing sophisticated client engagements.
- Proven leadership experience supervising teams and mentoring tax professionals.
- Excellent communication, relationship management, and project leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements while delivering exceptional client service.
Preferred
- Master's in Taxation (MST) or related advanced degree.
- Experience serving Corporate high-profile clients; preferably start-ups, venture backed, to Fortune 500 companies.
- Business development experience with an interest in future practice leadership.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions, transaction advisory, and strategic tax planning.
- Previous experience leading tax practice initiatives or specialty service lines.
