Warehouse Forklift Operator

Catawba Valley Staffing in Hickory, NC is seeking a dedicated Forklift Operator and Material Handler to join our dynamic logistics and warehouse team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating various types of material handling equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, clamp trucks, and pallet jacks, to efficiently load, unload, and organize inventory within our warehouse. Your expertise in warehouse management systems, inventory control, and safety protocols will ensure smooth warehouse distribution operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, manual handling skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment while supporting the overall efficiency of warehouse functions.

**1st shift**

Duties

Operate forklift trucks, reach trucks, Hi-Lo forklifts, clamp trucks, and pallet jacks to load and unload materials with precision and adherence to safety standards.

Manage inventory by accurately picking orders using barcode scanning technology and order picker equipment.

Assist in shipping and receiving processes by verifying incoming and outgoing shipments against documentation.

Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure operational safety and reliability.

Maintain accurate records of inventory movements within the warehouse management system.

Follow OSHA safety standards and warehouse safety protocols during all materials handling activities.

Support warehouse distribution tasks by organizing stock in designated areas for easy access and efficient workflow.

Perform manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting while utilizing proper techniques to prevent injury.

Collaborate with warehouse supervisors to optimize storage space and improve overall warehouse operations.

Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues promptly and effectively.

Skills

Proven experience operating forklifts, reach trucks, Hi-Lo forklifts, clamp trucks, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.

Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS) and barcode scanning for logistics.

Knowledge of shipping & receiving procedures and inventory management practices.

Familiarity with warehouse safety standards in production environments, including OSHA regulations.

Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and troubleshooting.

Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using manual handling techniques.

Basic math skills for inventory counts, measurements, and documentation accuracy.

Experience with order picking systems such as picker or similar tools.

Knowledge of warehouse distribution processes and materials handling best practices.

Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors.

Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment safely in a fast-paced environment.
