Job Title: Attorney - Employee Benefit Compliance

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (On-site with Hybrid Flexibility After Initial Period)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Employee Benefit Compliance Attorney to advise business and nonprofit clients on ERISA compliance, employee benefits, retirement plans, and health and welfare benefit programs. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience counseling plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and administrators on regulatory compliance, plan governance, and employee benefits matters while representing clients before federal regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and plan administrators on ERISA compliance, fiduciary responsibilities, and day-to-day plan administration.

  • Counsel clients on the design, drafting, implementation, and ongoing compliance of qualified retirement plans, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), and executive compensation arrangements.

  • Provide legal guidance on health plans, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), cafeteria plans, and HIPAA compliance.

  • Advise business and nonprofit organizations on complex compliance, regulatory, and transactional matters involving retirement and employee benefit plans.

  • Represent clients before the Department of Labor (DOL), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) in audits, investigations, compliance matters, and plan terminations.

  • Draft and review plan documents, amendments, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), Summaries of Material Modifications (SMMs), and other employee benefits documentation.

  • Collaborate with corporate, tax, and labor & employment attorneys to provide integrated legal solutions.

  • Develop and manage project plans to ensure timely completion of client matters.

  • Conduct legal research and stay current on developments affecting ERISA and employee benefits law.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active bar membership and good standing.

  • 5-7 years of ERISA and employee benefits experience in a law firm representing business clients.

  • Strong knowledge of retirement plan compliance, fiduciary obligations, and employee benefits regulations.

  • Experience representing clients before federal regulatory agencies, including the DOL, IRS, and PBGC.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, negotiation, and client counseling skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.

  • Annual expectation of 1,900 billable hours.
