Job Description

Job Description
Assembly Operations Team Supervisor

At BAC, leadership starts on the shop floor. As an assembly-focused servant leader, you will guide a team of skilled mechanics to hit daily build targets and advance longer-term initiatives set with your Team Leader. You own execution against the department’s goals and live our values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation—always doing the right thing in the right way.

A day in this role

You open the shift with a Toolbox talk, aligning everyone on safety, quality, and the day’s plan. You flex manpower to balance the Assembly Line, delegating work based on skills and accountabilities while ensuring clear two-way communication. Throughout the day, you coordinate with Sheet Metal, BBD, and other partners so materials and information land exactly when needed. You may safely operate a jib or overhead crane to position components, and you model LEAN thinking and 5S discipline with regular Gemba walks.

You check progress against the production schedule, take independent action to remove roadblocks, and hold the line on process discipline to meet or exceed shift goals. You coach and counsel when quality, safety, or productivity slip, and you recognize contributions that move the team forward. You co-create objectives with your Team Leader and provide quarterly feedback. You also assist with annual reviews, lead accident investigations for any incidents on your shift, and maintain a current skills matrix. New teammates are welcomed with a Buddy & Mentor and weekly follow-ups you facilitate. When needed, you provide coverage on other shifts and follow the Shift Leader Standard Work. You innovate, champion sustainability by reducing waste, energy, and water use, and you handle other related duties as assigned.

Scope and collaboration

You report to the department Team Leader or Supervisor. You share responsibility for department outcomes as part of the leadership team and, in the Team Leader’s absence, you run the department. You may also contribute to cross-functional and regional teams.

What you bring
  • Proven frontline leadership: delegation, follow-up, independent judgment, and the ability to build high-performing teams.
  • Skill in developing senior mechanics as influencers and mentors.
  • Fluency with production schedules and BAC product families, models, and parts.
  • Clear communication: professional English (written and spoken), process documentation, and accurate technical exchange with customers, engineers, and mechanics.
  • Knowledge of plant IPI and CAP programs; competence with Continuous Improvement tools.
  • Certified to safely operate overhead and JIB cranes; able to lead meetings and deliver presentations.
  • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel (intermediate—update data and create metrics), PeopleSoft, Internet tools, and ADI; familiarity with databases and spreadsheets.
  • Deep understanding of LEAN, including 5S, Gemba, and the 7 wastes.
  • Well-versed in procedures, policies, and ISO instructions to safeguard product quality.
  • Comfort working with engineers and generating engineering change requests when necessary.
Physical environment
  • Standing and walking up to 80% of the shift; routine bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sitting, and reaching.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Manufacturing noise levels; temperature fluctuations; intermittent exposure to weather in yard and dock areas.
  • Occasional weekend work; availability expected for any of the three operating shifts.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Safety and quality first
  • Own personal and team safety; follow all safety rules and use proper PPE.
  • Uphold quality standards with rigorous process discipline.
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
