General Maintenance Worker – Senior Job Description

The Senior General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance on buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This role leads complex maintenance tasks, mentors junior maintenance staff, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and helps maintain a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on buildings, equipment, and facility systems.
• Inspect facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs and potential safety hazards.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and mechanical issues within the scope of the position.
• Lead and coordinate maintenance projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
• Assign and monitor work performed by junior maintenance personnel and provide on-the-job training and guidance.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in good working condition.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and work orders.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and inventory.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors during specialized repair or maintenance work.
• Recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and facility operations.
• Assist with budgeting for maintenance materials, equipment, and repairs as needed.
