Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components, ensuring all parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards. This role involves running programs for various machining operations, adjusting machine parameters, and using precision measuring tools to verify accuracy throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe and mill machines to produce precision components.
  • Run CNC programs to perform milling, drilling, threading, sawing, and boring operations on a variety of materials.
  • Gather required materials and components and prepare workpieces for machining.
  • Load and unload equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper positioning of workpieces in the work area.
  • Set and adjust machine parameters, including speeds, feeds, and offsets, to achieve desired results.
  • Use gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify that parts meet specified tolerances.
  • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and surface quality and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on CNC machines and processes to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
  • Set up machines for different jobs, including tooling changes and fixture setups, following established procedures.
  • Work with vertical and horizontal milling machines and multi-axis equipment as required by production needs.
  • Follow written instructions, drawings, and CNC programs, including G code and M code, to complete machining operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures in a machine shop environment.

Essential Skills

  • 2–4 years of CNC machining experience with both lathe and mill equipment.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills.
  • Ability to read and understand G code and M code (G&M code).
  • Experience working with Fanuc controls.
  • Ability to use gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments accurately.
  • Hands-on experience with milling and turning operations, including vertical and horizontal milling machines.
  • Ability to perform machine setup, including tooling and workholding, for a variety of parts.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve basic machining and equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and follow machining instructions and technical information related to CNC programs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Haas, Mazak, or similar CNC machine tools.
  • Familiarity with Mastercam or other CAM software.
  • Experience working with multi-axis CNC equipment.
  • Exposure to G code and M code programming beyond basic reading and interpretation.
  • Ability to perform basic CNC program edits when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Capability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Environment

This position operates in a machine shop environment on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. The role involves working around CNC lathes, mills, and related machining equipment, with regular use of precision measuring tools such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Employees follow standard safety practices appropriate for a production machine shop setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.
