We are looking for an experienced Civil Litigation Attorney to join a legal team in Sacramento, California, representing individuals and families affected by elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and wrongful death. This role is ideal for a lawyer who combines strong courtroom and case development skills with compassion, sound judgment, and a client-focused approach. The attorney will handle matters from initial investigation through resolution while working closely with clients, experts, and internal colleagues to pursue meaningful outcomes.
Responsibilities:
• Represent clients and their families in civil matters involving elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, wrongful death, and related claims.
• Direct cases through all stages of litigation, including early evaluation, factual investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, settlement planning, and trial preparation.
• Build well-supported claims by gathering records, analyzing evidence, coordinating with medical providers, and partnering with consultants and expert witnesses.
• Prepare, serve, and respond to discovery, take and defend depositions, and pursue court intervention when necessary to resolve discovery disputes.
• Develop case strategies that balance trial readiness with effective negotiation to maximize resolution opportunities for clients.
• Maintain consistent, thoughtful communication with clients by explaining legal developments, answering questions, and documenting damages and losses.
• Advocate for vulnerable individuals and their families with professionalism, empathy, and a strong commitment to justice.
• Work collaboratively with fellow attorneys and external stakeholders, including public agencies and healthcare professionals, to strengthen case outcomes.• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and a completed undergraduate degree.
• Active membership in the California State Bar in good standing.
• At least 4 years of civil litigation experience in California state and federal courts.
• Demonstrated ability in motion practice, legal briefing, written discovery, and discovery dispute resolution.
• Experience handling depositions, case investigations, and complex litigation matters with minimal supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to build trust with clients and partners.
• Sensitivity to the needs of older clients and families facing difficult circumstances.
• Trial or arbitration experience is preferred, and background in elder law, personal injury, medical malpractice, or business litigation is beneficial.
