Core Stacking Technician

The Lead Core Stacking Technician is responsible for assembling transformer core structures using precision-cut laminations in accordance with engineering drawings and build specifications. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, assembly discipline, and quality ownership to ensure proper alignment, sequencing, and overall assembly quality.
This position is intended for experienced manufacturing personnel who will serve as part of the seed team during facility ramp-up, supporting process development, Technician training, build consistency, and readiness for downstream transformer assembly operations.

Core Assembly & Stacking

• Assemble transformer core components, including yokes and legs, using pre-cut laminations
• Follow work instructions and technical drawings to ensure proper sequencing, alignment, and dimensional accuracy
• Maintain stack integrity and assembly quality throughout the build process
• Prepare core assemblies for downstream operations in accordance with build requirements
• Support the development of standardized assembly methods and best practices during ramp-up

Quality Control & Inspection

• Inspect laminations prior to assembly for damage, coating condition, or non-conformance
• Verify alignment, sequencing, and dimensional accuracy of assembled core components
• Identify defects such as gaps, misalignment, or damaged materials and take corrective action
• Ensure conformance to engineering specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements
• Accurately log production data, material traceability, and quality yields into the ERP or production tracking system
• Support corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts related to assembly quality and repeatability

Material Handling

• Safely transport laminations and core components using overhead cranes and lifting equipment
• Stage materials for efficient assembly while maintaining organization and traceability
• Handle materials in a manner that protects part integrity and supports build quality

Tools & Equipment

• Use hand tools, fixtures, and assembly aids required for core stacking and alignment
• Perform basic inspection and care of tools and assembly equipment
• Assist in resolving tooling or assembly issues that impact product quality or workflow

Training & Team Support

• Support training and qualification of new Technicians during factory ramp-up
• Share assembly best practices, workmanship expectations, and quality standards with team members
• Assist supervisors in identifying training needs, improving consistency, and reinforcing standard methods

Required Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical or precision assembly work
• Prior experience in transformer manufacturing, electrical equipment assembly, or similar engineered-product manufacturing preferred

Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and build specifications
• Proficiency with measurement tools such as calipers and gauges
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude
• Demonstrated ability to identify assembly or quality issues and take corrective action
• Ability to support training, process consistency, and quality-focused execution during ramp-up

Safety & Certifications

• Experience with overhead cranes or lifting equipment preferred
• Ability to follow all workplace safety requirements and reinforce safe work practices with others

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree (AAS) in Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field strongly preferred
• Experience in transformer manufacturing, electrical equipment assembly, or similar industries
• Experience working with precision assemblies requiring tight tolerances
• Experience supporting process improvements, build consistency efforts, or Technician training
• Demonstrated ability to lead by example in quality, safety, and execution

Additional Requirements

• Ability and willingness to travel Internationally for training, equipment commissioning, or support activities, including extended travel during initial facility ramp-up
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role as outlined below

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods during the work shift
• Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs, with or without assistance
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion
• Ability to bend, reach, and work in a manufacturing environment around moving equipment
• Ability to safely work in an industrial environment using required personal protective equipment (PPE)
