Job Description

At STERIS, we partner with healthcare and life science leaders to create a healthier, safer world through innovative products and service solutions—delivered wherever care happens.

A day in the life

You start your day from home, review your route in California, and head to a hospital where clinicians count on you to keep critical medical equipment running. You diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, complete a scheduled installation, and document everything using advanced digital tools. When a complex problem emerges, you loop in Tech Support, Engineering, or Service Contract Management to resolve it quickly. Before leaving, you walk the Customer through repair options and pricing, and flag a potential upgrade opportunity for your Sales partners. Then it’s off to the next facility in your territory.

Where you’ll work

This is a remote, Customer-facing role primarily performed inside hospitals. To support Customers in the assigned territory, you must reside in California.

What you will do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain STERIS and competitor medical equipment, systems, and components.
  • Own your schedule to balance PMs, service and warranty calls, equipment installations, field upgrade programs, and other assignments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Tech Support, Engineering, Service Contract Management) and use technology platforms to meet regulatory compliance, resolve issues, and record troubleshooting steps.
  • Present Customers with information, pricing, and repair options; with management support, build relationships with Sales to enhance Customer experience and identify revenue opportunities.
  • Support multiple sites within your territory based on service agreements and Customer needs.
Who succeeds in this role

Backgrounds such as HVAC, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, and electrical often translate well.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical/technical capacity. An associate degree, related technical/mechanical certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward the technical requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet all required background and physical assessment elements to obtain and maintain existing and new vendor credentialing requirements.
  • Experience engaging with Customers and collaborating on teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows/email, navigation, mobile apps, data entry across multiple systems).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule with potential overnights and early/late hours based on Customer and business needs.
What STERIS offers

We provide a comprehensive package to support your health, well-being, and financial future:

  • Market competitive pay
  • Extensive paid time off and (9) added holidays
  • Excellent healthcare, dental, and vision benefits
  • Company vehicle
  • Company cell phone/laptop
