Senior Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team focused on developing innovative electromechanical products. This role provides technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through production and sustaining engineering. The ideal candidate will lead complex mechanical design efforts, mentor junior engineers, and work cross-functionally to deliver high-quality products.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and subsystems across multiple product platforms.
- Collaborate with engineering, research, program management, and manufacturing teams to define system architecture and product requirements.
- Drive rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Create and maintain mechanical design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), tolerance analyses, and test fixtures.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including pilot builds, manufacturing support, and production readiness.
- Perform sustaining engineering by implementing design improvements based on manufacturing, quality, and field feedback.
- Design and evaluate components involving plastics, structural metals, mechanical assemblies, rotating mechanisms, and electromechanical systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior mechanical engineers.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure products meet performance, manufacturability, and quality objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development or manufacturing environments.
- Experience designing one or more of the following:
- Handheld or portable products
- Electromechanical systems
- Robotic systems
- Large industrial equipment or machinery
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including:
- Injection molded plastics
- Structural metal components
- Mechanical mechanisms and assemblies
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Onshape, or similar.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical designs from concept through production.
