Job Summary:

The Dental Lead coordinates and monitors day-to-day operations of the Mobile Dental Unit, facilitates efficient workflow, and serves as a lead resource for staff to ensure delivery of high-quality patient care and effective program operations. The Dental Lead functions as an extension of the Dental Clinic Manager, assuring clinical operation functions continue per agency protocol in the absence of the Dental Clinic Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Mobile Dental Unit to support efficient service delivery and successful program outcomes.
  2. Monitors Mobile Dental Unit workflows and identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency, patient access, and service quality.
  3. Serves as the primary point of contact for facilities and patients interested in utilizing mobile dental services. Coordinates scheduling with facilities within MHC’s service area and ensures required documentation is complete prior to mobile dental unit arriving onsite.
  4. Collects and posts payments in the practice management system. Reviews balances and closes daily walk-outs for accurate claim submissions and account balances regarding the mobile dental unit.
  5. Monitors Dentrix reports for mobile dental unit operations and communicates operational concerns or trends to leadership as appropriate.
  6. Provides case management services for patients/guardians to help gain access and understanding of dental care, understanding treatment recommendations and navigating available resources.
  7. Completes and maintains accurate patient records by documenting patient examinations, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with organizational standards.
  8. Supports efficient clinic workflow by preparing treatment areas, stocking supplies, and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
  9. Serves as the operational backup for dental clinic operations during the absence of the Dental Clinic Manager, ensuring continuity of established workflows and agency procedures.
  10. Provides assistance, support, and relief to other dental team members with clinical, administrative, clerical, or business duties.
  11. Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties 1 through 11 are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed at the appropriate level. All other job duties are secondary functions.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to efficiently carry out Midtown Health’s Center mission statement and comply with its policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and the public and to be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with all occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address clinic’s needs.
  • Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills highly desired.


Education and Experience, Licensure and Certification:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of two years prior experience in the dental field required.
  • Associate’s degree in Administration or Office Management preferred.
  • Experience with digital x-rays and electronic dental records preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
