Position Overview

A reputable healthcare organization in New Haven, CT is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Access Specialist to join its administrative team. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients and is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while ensuring accurate registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and patient intake processes. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment and be committed to delivering a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and healthcare providers in a professional and welcoming manner
  • Register patients and accurately enter demographic and insurance information into electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorizations prior to appointments
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
  • Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding patient balances
  • Maintain patient records and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with HIPAA regulations
  • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, billing, and general information
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Resolve registration and insurance discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in patient registration, healthcare administration, medical office support, or customer service
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and patient scheduling preferred
  • Experience working with EMR/EHR systems
  • Strong data entry and computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality requirements
