About the Role
Merryhill School is seeking an experienced Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to create a safe, engaging, and encouraging aquatic environment for our students. This is a full-time, temporary position running Monday through Friday from August 17 through October 9.
In addition to supervising swim activities and enforcing pool safety guidelines, you will help students develop their swimming abilities and confidence in the water. For the right candidate, this assignment may also provide a pathway to continued employment within our Student Support team or another area of the school.
You will also:
- Maintain constant visual supervision of students in and around the pool
- Provide swim instruction and support students with varying skill levels
- Ensure students follow established pool safety rules and procedures
- Remain stationed along the pool deck to actively monitor the pool area
- Coordinate with school staff to ensure students safely arrive at and depart from the pool
- Supervise scheduled swim periods and respond promptly to emergencies
- Lock and secure the pool area when a lifeguard is not present
- Monitor pool conditions and promptly report safety concerns
- Conduct routine checks of pool chemicals and document daily inspections
- Maintain the cleanliness of the pool area and remove debris from the pool
- Serve as a positive role model and maintain a professional presence with students, staff, and families
What We’re Looking For
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Current, active Lifeguard certification required
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications required
- Prior experience as both a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor required
- Strong attention to safety and situational awareness
- Ability to remain attentive and focused during extended supervision periods
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with children
- Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, for the entire assignment period
