Job Description

An Oncology Nurse plays a critical role within a collaborative oncology department, providing specialized care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. Reporting directly to the Nurse Manager, this role involves frequent patient interaction, balancing hands-on care with essential administrative tasks. The Oncology Nurse utilizes standard hospital electronic health records to manage treatment planning and medical documentation effectively while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

 

13 Week Contract with the option to extend

Shift: Nights - 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Weekends: Every Other

Charting: Epic (Preferred)

At least 2 years of experience in oncology with a chemo certification

 

Medical Surgical Oncology patients:
Leukemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma
Research - clinical trials; CART and Stem cell transplant
BMT, General, Hematology/Oncology

 

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy and other medications safely and accurately
  • Manage patient symptoms and provide effective pain management
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and care procedures
  • Coordinate care within a multidisciplinary oncology team
  • Document medical information and treatment progress in electronic health records
  • Offer emotional support and counseling to patients during treatment
  • Participate in treatment planning and adjustments based on patient needs

 

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or BSN
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • BLS certification
  • Certification in Chemotherapy (ONS/ONCC)
  • Experience in medical surgical nursing and oncology nursing
  • Strong skills in patient care, chemotherapy administration, and pain management
  • Proficiency in medical documentation and patient education
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and team collaboration abilities
  • Critical thinking skills tailored to oncology patient care
