Manufacturing Area Supervisor – 2nd Shift
Location: Harlan, Iowa
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 p.m.–12:30 a.m.
Salary: $80,000–$85,000 annually, plus year-end profit sharing
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Position Overview
A growing and financially stable industrial manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Area Supervisor to lead second-shift production operations at its Harlan, Iowa facility.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing leader who enjoys developing employees, improving production performance, and maintaining strong quality and safety standards. The supervisor will oversee a core second-shift team while coordinating with a broader production group in a 110,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily second-shift manufacturing activities to meet production, quality, and shipment targets.
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop production employees.
- Manage production schedules, labor allocation, workflow, and inventory movement.
- Monitor production performance and address issues affecting efficiency, quality, or throughput.
- Ensure compliance with ISO procedures, quality standards, company policies, and workplace safety requirements.
- Conduct safety audits and reinforce a safety-focused workplace culture.
- Partner with engineering, sales, quality, and outside vendors to resolve product and production concerns.
- Coordinate engineering changes, print revisions, and production documentation.
- Apply root-cause analysis to resolve quality and process issues.
- Support Lean manufacturing, 5S, waste-reduction, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate production records and standard operating procedures.
- Provide hands-on support on the production floor when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Five to seven years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Three to five years of manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading production employees and managing daily performance.
- Knowledge of production scheduling, workforce planning, and inventory control.
- Experience with process documentation, standard operating procedures, and quality issue resolution.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance floor leadership with administrative responsibilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Availability to work the full second-shift schedule onsite in Harlan, Iowa.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
- Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system, such as Oracle or JD Edwards.
- Familiarity with engineering prints, revisions, engineering change orders, or Jira.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous-improvement practices.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
- Associate degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
