About this job
Job Description
Insurance Coverage Attorney (Coverage Litigation)
Represent Leading Insurers | Complex Coverage Matters | Career Growth Opportunity
Are you an insurance coverage attorney who enjoys solving complex coverage issues, advising sophisticated insurer clients, and litigating high-stakes disputes?
We are seeking an Insurance Coverage Attorney to join a growing and highly respected practice representing insurance carriers in complex first-party property and third-party liability coverage matters. This is an opportunity to work on intellectually challenging cases, provide strategic coverage advice, and take ownership of matters from analysis through resolution.
Whether you're looking to deepen your coverage expertise or take the next step toward a senior leadership role, you'll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, influence litigation strategy, and develop a reputation as a trusted coverage advisor.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Handle sophisticated insurance coverage disputes rather than high-volume insurance defense files
- Work directly with insurer clients, claims professionals, and decision-makers
- Gain meaningful responsibility and autonomy over your caseload
- Litigate complex declaratory judgment and coverage actions in state and federal courts
- Collaborate with experienced coverage attorneys recognized for their depth of insurance law knowledge
- Opportunity to mentor junior attorneys and grow into leadership responsibilities
What You'll Do
As a key member of the coverage team, you will:
- Analyze complex insurance coverage issues involving first-party property and third-party liability claims.
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial letters, and coverage position analyses.
- Develop and execute litigation strategy in coverage disputes and declaratory judgment actions.
- Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.
- Counsel insurer clients regarding risk exposure, coverage obligations, settlement considerations, and claims handling strategy.
- Work closely with claims adjusters, in-house counsel, experts, and co-counsel to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Research and analyze emerging developments in insurance law and coverage issues.
- Contribute to the professional development of junior attorneys through mentorship and guidance.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar admission in good standing.
- 3+ years of litigation experience with meaningful exposure to insurance coverage matters.
- Experience drafting legal briefs, motions, and coverage-related correspondence.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to independently manage cases and communicate effectively with clients.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of insurance coverage litigation experience.
- First-party property coverage analysis.
- Third-party liability coverage disputes.
- Coverage opinion drafting.
- Reservation of rights and coverage position letters.
- Declaratory judgment actions.
- Commercial General Liability (CGL) coverage.
- Homeowners and commercial property policy interpretation.
- Bad faith and extra-contractual exposure issues.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate is more than a litigator-they are a strategic problem solver who understands both the legal and business realities facing insurance carriers. They are comfortable navigating complex policy language, developing persuasive legal arguments, and serving as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients.
If you enjoy the intellectual challenge of insurance coverage law and want to work on impactful matters with significant client interaction and long-term growth potential, we'd love to speak with you.
