Job Title: Maintenance TechnicianJob Description

The Maintenance Technician supports a fast-paced agricultural production facility by assembling and maintaining corn husking beds and related equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to follow directions and communicate clearly. You will work both indoors and outdoors, contributing directly to reliable plant operations and helping ensure high-quality seed production.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble corn husking beds and related mechanical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities to support plant operations.
  • Ensure all work consistently meets safety standards and follow established safety practices.
  • Maintain the condition, cleanliness, and organization of the plant shop and maintenance tools.
  • Assist with grounds and facility maintenance as needed, including general upkeep of the site.
  • Help maintain detailed equipment maintenance records and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Operations to schedule and complete maintenance activities without interrupting production.
  • Use ladders and lifts safely, following tie-off requirements for work above 4 feet and up to 40 feet.
  • Safely lift, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 60 pounds as part of daily tasks.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned maintenance work in a timely manner.
  • Adjust to changing conditions, such as seasonal workload changes and varying shift assignments.
  • Initiate and follow emergency procedures when necessary, always maintaining safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations and facility reliability.
Essential Skills
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn, understand, and apply mechanical concepts.
  • Ability to follow directions carefully and complete tasks with attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions when needed.
  • Ability to work safely, maintaining seed quality while completing tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance, with the ability to arrive at the work site as instructed.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 60 pounds, work indoors and outdoors, and walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Comfort working at heights using ladders up to 8 feet and lifts up to 40 feet, following tie-off requirements.
  • Willingness to work in environments with exposure to dust and plant allergens.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety standards and following emergency procedures when necessary.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • General maintenance or agricultural experience is helpful but not required.
  • Knowledge of production agriculture and production plant operations is an advantage.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and adjust to changing conditions, including seasonal workload fluctuations.
  • Enthusiastic attitude with honesty, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to treat all colleagues with respect.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience as a maintenance technician or in a similar mechanical role is beneficial.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production plant environment that is safe, fast-paced, and focused on agricultural seed operations. The standard schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 6:00–6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., totaling approximately 40 hours per week. During busy seasons and harvest periods, you may be asked to work second or third shifts, longer days, and occasional weekends, with advance notice based on weather conditions and business needs. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, including walking on uneven surfaces and working at heights using ladders up to 8 feet and lifts up to 40 feet, with tie-off required above 4 feet. You will be exposed to dust and plant allergens and will use typical maintenance tools and equipment. Personal protective equipment is required, including over-the-ankle steel-toe boots, and adherence to all safety protocols is expected at all times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
