Job Title: Machine Operator – CNC Laser
Job Description
This role focuses on operating a CNC laser machine in a custom fabrication shop that produces sheet metal parts for a wide range of industries, including commercial construction, residential remodeling, marine projects, and industrial manufacturing. You will support experienced programmers and machinists by loading and unloading materials, running programs, and assisting with general shop tasks. This position offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to develop into a more advanced machinist over time.
Responsibilities
- Operate a CNC laser to manufacture tools, equipment, and other components from sheet metal according to product plans and production schedules.
- Prepare, set up, and adjust the CNC laser machine based on job requirements and production needs.
- Measure, align, and position sheet metal and other materials accurately before cutting.
- Load and unload materials and finished products from the CNC laser machine safely and efficiently.
- Assist with loading programs into the CNC laser and perform product runs to meet quality and productivity standards.
- Inspect finished parts and components to ensure they comply with quality standards and specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on the CNC laser machine to keep it in good working condition.
- Provide general shop assistance as needed, including supporting other departments depending on production demands.
- Follow work instructions, safety procedures, and shop policies to maintain a safe and organized work area.
Essential Skills
- Ability to safely and effectively operate CNC laser controls.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow product plans and work instructions.
- Basic computer skills to work with machine interfaces and production programs.
- Basic math skills for measuring, aligning, and verifying dimensions.
- Attention to detail to ensure parts meet quality and specification requirements.
- Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment and handle sheet metal materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with laser cutters, CNC lasers, and laser cutting processes.
- Experience in machine operation, particularly CNC machine operation.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and laser operation in a job shop setting.
- Willingness to learn and develop into a more skilled machinist over time.
- Comfort working in a smaller, team-oriented environment with cross-training opportunities.

The role is based in a family-owned fabrication shop with a strong, positive culture and a close-knit, smaller team. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
