Compensation: Base $100K-$150K + Uncapped bonus potential
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to represent clients in claims and disputes arising from workplace injuries and occupational illnesses. The attorney will manage cases from intake through resolution, provide sound legal advice, advocate at hearings and trials, negotiate settlements, and work closely with clients, medical providers, and insurance carriers to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of workers' compensation matters, including intake, investigation, claim development, and litigation.
- Provide clear legal counsel to injured workers and employer clients regarding rights, benefits, and legal options under state workers' compensation laws.
- Prepare and file pleadings, motions, petitions, and administrative documents required by workers' compensation courts and agencies.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediation, conferences, and trials; prepare witness testimony and exhibits; and conduct direct and cross examination.
- Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and insurance carriers, drafting settlement agreements and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Coordinate with medical providers, vocational experts, and other professionals to document injuries, treatment plans, and work restrictions.
- Maintain accurate case files, calendaring critical deadlines, and communicating regularly with clients about case status and strategy.
- Stay current with changes in workers' compensation statutes, regulations, and case law; train or mentor junior attorneys and support staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 2+ years handling workers' compensation claims and litigation
- Strong litigation skills, including experience with administrative hearings, trials, and appellate practice in workers' compensation matters.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills; ability to draft legal documents and present persuasive arguments before judges and agencies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, workers' compensation benefit structures, vocational rehabilitation, and return-to-work issues.
- Proven ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining high ethical standards and client service.
